Year 2 2015 - 2016

Miss Spalvieri

Class Teacher - Miss Spalvieri

Learning Assistants - Mrs Edwards and Mrs Hope

Year 2 is a warm and welcoming classroom where lots of exciting learning takes place. We believe that children learn best when they are having lots of fun! Therefore all of the lessons are interactive, exciting and engaging.

Throughout Year 2, the children continue to develop their own independence. They are given lots of responsibilities and they challenge themselves to achieve their full potential! With support from teachers and family at home, the children work hard on their goals.

All individuals

Each child enters Year 2 at a different stage. Therefore we treat every child as an idividual and plan to cater for their individual needs. We understand that every child learns in a different way and has different interests and it is our aim to adapt our teaching to suit the children. We encourage their independence throughout, allowing them to take ownership of their learning and achievements and to understand how to solve problems on their own.

What do we learn?

We have daily Literacy/SPAG, Guided Reading, Spelling, Numeracy and Literacy & Language/Read Write Inc lessons where we can work on our core skills. Our Literacy/SPAG is focused around a book that we are reading and we produce some fantastic writing linked to this work. Our current book is Grace and Family by Mary Hoffman, which is linked to our Geography topic on Africa.

We teach most areas of the curriculum through the challenge curriculum where the different areas of the curriculum are linked through a common theme for example ‘What was it like when the queen came to the throne in 1953?’ (History), or ‘How can eating 5-a-day help me to be healthy?’ (Science).

Important things to remember: -

- We have PE every Tuesday and Friday afternoon – please ensure that your full PE kits are in school for these sessions.

- Homework is set on a Friday and is due back on the following Tuesday – please ensure you bring it back on time.

- Reading books are changed every Monday - Please ensure your child's brings their reading book every day as they start each day with quiet reading. If there are any issues please don't hesitate to ask.

- Spellings are provided every Friday and tested the following Friday - please ensure spelling books are in class on that day.
